What’s the Difference Between Aesthetician and Esthetician?

Skincare is all the hype these days. People are focusing on their skincare, and the skincare business is booming. You can open any app or magazine, and you will see a skincare ad for sure. Sometimes, the ad might be about an esthetician and sometimes an aesthetician.

Aesthetician

Aestheticians are also referred to as medical, paramedical, or clinical aestheticians. Aestheticians are skincare specialists with a completely clinical focus. Burn victims, cancer patients, or any other patients with skin issues usually consult an aesthetician.

An aesthetician can treat, repair, and maintain skin that has been through severe damage due to surgery, fire, chemotherapy, or any other incidents. Aestheticians mostly work with a dermatologist who helps address problems like acne, rashes, or other skin concerns that arise because of medical treatments.

Medical aestheticians also use makeup to conceal and perfect the skin. They also help with cleansing and moisturizing the skin. Unlike estheticians, medical aestheticians are qualified to perform surgeries, and there you can find them working in:

● Burn units

● Hospitals

● Trauma centers

● Surgery centers

● Clinics

● Dermatology offices

● Med spas

Esthetician

When it comes to estheticians, you’ve probably already met and interacted with one. Estheticians are also skincare specialists, but they are often referred to as skincare therapists or spa technicians. So, if you’ve gone to spas or salons before for a facial, an esthetician could’ve guided you and provided you with the necessary treatments.

An esthetician’s work revolves around cosmetic treatments, whereas aestheticians have a more medical role. You find an esthetician at a spa, beauty salon, resort, or fitness club. They usually perform or provide the following services:

● Skin cleaning through exfoliation, facials, aromatherapy, and massage

● Identifying health problems after skin analyses

● Removing facial or body hair temporarily

An esthetician’s work is all about beautification. They can also guide you with the right makeup and skincare products for your skin type. Aestheticans get formal training and education in cosmetology.

Journey through Esthetics by Naushaba Ahmed talks about estheticians in much more detail. You can check out this book to learn more about becoming an esthetician and what an esthetician’s experience is.
